SSC CGL 2023 Selection Process
Now, as per the new selection process of the SSC CGL, there will
be two Tier Computer Based Examination, i.e. Tier-I, and Tier-II. The Tier-I
exam will be qualifying in nature, while the selection will be made based on
the merit of the Tier-II exam only.
- Tier-I Exam (Qualifying)
- Tier-II Exam (450 Marks)
SSC CGL 2023 Tier-I Exam Pattern
The SSC CGL Tier-I exam is an objective exam that will be conducted online. The exam comprises four sections having 100
questions (25 questions in each section) which will account for a total of 200
marks (a maximum of 50 marks in each section). The time duration of the Tier-1
exam will be 60 minutes. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each
wrong answer.

- Negative Marking: 1/4th (0.5
Mark deducted for each wrong answer)
- Medium of Exam: English and
Hindi except for the English Comprehension part.

Points to remember:
- There is a negative marking in SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam. 0.5 marks will be deducted from every question that is attempted
wrong by a candidate in all the sections.
- The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped and suffering from Cerebral Palsy.
After going through the above-mentioned exam pattern of the SSC
CGL Exam, the next step is to analyze the topic-wise syllabus of all four
sections of the SSC CGL Tier-I Exam given below.
SSC CGL 2023 Tier-2 Exam Pattern
- Tier II will include conducting
Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III in separate shift(s)/ day(s).
- Paper-I is Compulsory for All
the Posts
- Paper II will be for only those
candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in
the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and who are
shortlisted in Tier-I for these Posts.
- Paper-III will be for only
those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-III i.e. for the
posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.
- Paper-I will be conducted in
two sessions – Session –I & Session II, on the same day. Session-I
will include conducting Section-I, Section II, and Module-I of Section
III. Session II will include conducting Module II of Section III.
Therefore, the duration of Session-I will be 2 hours and 15 minutes, and
the duration of Session II will be 15 minutes only
- It will be mandatory for the
candidates to qualify in all the sections of Paper-I
- There will be a negative
marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II, and
Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in
Paper-II and Paper-III.
SSC CGL Syllabus for Tier-I Exam
General Intelligence
and Reasoning: It would include
questions of both verbal and non-verbal types. This component may include
questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization,
spatial orientation, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision-making,
visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical
reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal
series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning, etc.
The topics are Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Figural Analogy,
Semantic Classification, Symbolic/Number Classification, Figural
Classification, Semantic Series, Number Series, Figural Series, Problem

General Awareness: Questions in this component will be aimed at
testing the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its
application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of
current events and such matters of everyday observations and experience in
their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test
will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries,
especially about sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General
Polity, Indian Constitution, scientific Research, etc. These Questions will be
such that they do not require a special study in any discipline
Quantitative Aptitude
(Maths): The questions will
be designed to test the ability to appropriate use of numbers and number sense
of the candidate. The scope of the test will be the computation of whole
numbers, decimals, fractions, and relationships between numbers, Percentages.
Ratio & Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss,
Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture, and Alligation, Time and distance,
Time & Work, Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra & Elementary
surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle and its various kinds of centers,
Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles
subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles,
Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular

Module-I of Session-I of Paper-I (Mathematical Abilities)
- Number Systems: Computation of
Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions, and Relationship between numbers.

operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages,
Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership

- Algebra: Basic algebraic
identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and
Graphs of Linear Equations.
- Geometry: Familiarity with
elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of
centers, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents,
angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more
circles.
- Mensuration: Triangle,
Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular
Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped,

- Trigonometry: Trigonometry,

Module-II of Section-I of Paper-I (Reasoning and General
Intelligence):
Questions of both verbal and non-verbal types. These will

Module-I of Section-II of Paper-I (English Language And
Comprehension)
Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and
their correct usage; Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/ Homonyms,
Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting misspelled words, Idioms & Phrases, One-word
substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs,
Conversion into Direct/ Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts,
Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage. To
test comprehension, three or more paragraphs will be given and questions based
on those will be asked. At least one paragraph should be a simple one based on
a book or a story and the other two paragraphs should be on current affairs,
based on a report or an editorial.
Module II of Section II of Paper-I (General Awareness)
Questions are designed to test the candidates’ general awareness
of the environment around them and its application to society. Questions are
also designed to test knowledge of current events and such matters of everyday
observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an
educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its
neighboring countries, especially about History, Culture, Geography, Economic

Explorer. Keyboard shortcuts.

system including basics of Microsoft Office like MS word, MS Excel and
PowerPoint, etc.
- Working with the Internet and
e-mails: Web Browsing & Searching, Downloading & Uploading,
Managing an E-mail Account, e-Banking.
- Basics of networking and cyber
security: Networking devices and protocols, Network and information
security threats (like hacking, virus, worms, Trojans, etc.), and
