16-National Vaccination Day. In 1988, the World Health
Organization (WHO) Global Polio Eradication Initiative was started as the
first step of eradicating the disease from the planet. In 1995, on the same day, the
government of India started the pulse polio Immunisation Programme as
the first attempt of eradicating the disease from the country. Since then,
March 16 has been celebrated as National Vaccination Day. |

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is a constitutional
body, established by the Constitution of India to conduct
and regulate elections in the country. Article 324 of the Constitution provides that the power of
superintendence, direction, and control of elections to parliament, state
legislatures, the office of the president of India, and the office of
vice-president of India shall be vested in the election commission. |

consumer price index (CPI)-based inflation eased to 5.09 percent in February 2024, according
to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. |
CPI It
measures price changes from the perspective of a retail buyer.
It is released by the National Statistical Office
(NSO). Base Year for CPI is 2012. In April 2014, the Reserve
Bank of India (RBI) had
adopted the CPI as its key measure of inflation. Four types of CPI are as
follows: o CPI for Industrial
Workers (IW). o CPI for Agricultural
Labourer (AL). o CPI for Rural Labourer
(RL). o CPI
(Rural/Urban/Combined). o Of these, the first
three are compiled by the Labour
Bureau in the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Fourth is compiled by
the NSO in the Ministry of
Statistics and Programme Implementation. |

The High level Committee on Simultaneous Elections constituted
under the Chairmanship of Shri Ram Nath Kovind, former President of India,
met the Hon’ble President of India, Shrimati Droupadi Murmu, and submitted
its Report. The Report, comprising 18,626 pages, is an outcome of extensive
consultations with stakeholders, experts and research work of 191 days, since
its constitution on 2 September, 2023. “One Nation, One Election”, means holding elections to Lok
Sabha, all state Legislative Assemblies, and urban and rural local bodies
(municipalities and panchayats) at the same time |

Varunah”, meaning: “Be auspicious unto us Oh Varuna”. India celebrates
Indian Navy Day every year on December 4 as an anniversary of the
Indo-Pakistan attack. |
