India’s ranking on the United Nations Human Development Index improved by one position in 2022 to 134 out of 193 countries ranked compared to 135 out of 192 countries ranked in 2021 on the back of a marginal increase in its HDI value to 0.644 compared to 0.633 in 2021.

India’s Shipping Ministry has approved waterways projects worth ₹645 crore on Brahmaputra in Assam. Projects, which will be developed under the Sagarmala programme.

Brahmaputra River

The Brahmaputra is one of the major rivers of Asia, a trans-boundary river which flows through China, India and Bangladesh. It is known as the Yarlung Tsangpo River in Tibet, the Brahmaputra, Lohit, Siang, and Dihang in India, and the Jamuna in Bangladesh.

The River Tsangpo enters into India through sharp south-westerly turn along the eastern side of Namcha Barwa. Then it get new name Dihang in Arunachal Pradesh.

 Debang and Lohit Rivers meet Dehang River near the city of Sadia, it is known by the name of Brahmaputra River.

The River Brahmaputra flows westward, till the city of Dhubri and thereafter turns southward in the Garo hills region and enter into Bangladesh near Golpara. It is called Jamuna in Bangladesh. Here, Tista and other rivers meet Brahmaputra which falls in the Padma (Ganga) in the end.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the first Oil Palm Processing Mill under Mission Palm Oil in Arunachal Pradesh. Launched in 2021, the National Mission for Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) aims to boost oil palm cultivation and crude palm oil production.
